My beauty and skincare mantra is

It is more about what you do than what you use.

Skincare routine

I am personally quite a low maintenance kind of gal and have a very sensitive skin, which actually doesnt allow me to use expensive products without reacting in some rather unpleasant way. The skin is our largest and very clever organ of the body, which rarely lets us get away with anything. As a make up artist I could always tell if a young model had a big night or a long flight the day before just by how the skin looked, felt and how it was reacting or behaving to make up.

For me skincare is much more than just what your morning and evening cleanse, tone, moisturise (CTM) routine is. It is about life style, diet, hydration and the movements incorporated in the CTM routine. A little lifting and lymph drainage massage will do more than the cream you use. A few easy face exercises are as important as sit ups and squats and alot less painful to achieve.

Of course using creams are important to keep skin moist and supple but the best advice is to use something that your skin best responds too, which does not mean the most expensive.

I put out a request for questions on skincare

  • Do Serums work? The thing about serums is that there are many different types which aim to achieve a different goal depending on your skin type or particular needs at the time. As we age I think moisture or hydration is probably our aim goal. A serum is light and quickly absorbed so used under a moisturiser can help give a moisture surge.
  • Best ingredients to look out for for over 50 skin? My suggestion is serums with Vitamin E, which is extremely hydrating and Hyraluronic Acid, which helps the skin to be supple and plump. This is naturally found in the body, but for cosmetic purposes it is made in a lab usually from a bacteria fermentation process from plants. However its also made from animal tissue- so I can’t 100% say it is always a vegan source.
  • Is more expensive better? The luxury brands do spend alot on research, but also on advertising and packaging. We are all individual and our skin will respond differently to product so I would say no. Also we should be looking at brands that use less unwanted plastics and packaging.
  • Can we use too much – oils, exfoliation, Gua Sha? Personally I think it is good to give your skin a break and generally day to day keep skin clean, moisturised and exercised and concentrate on diet and lifestyle and introduce other skin treatments and products as and when you need a boost. I do like to use my Jade roller reguarly and do a little lymph drainage but as I am so sensitive I avoid too many products.
  • Any advice for combination skin that still breaks out at the age of 57 and not had clear skin for 44 years.? Skincare is definitely more than skin deep. If someone is experiencing long term issues I would firstly want to ask some questions. Could it be something they are using on the skin that is reacting or even something within their diet. So then a perieod of ellimination to see if anything is a cause. However, sometimes this can be hereditary or just plain unlucky.

Morning routine

  • A quick splash with cold water dab dry with a soft towel or reusable pads
  • A little serum tapped into the skin with finger tips – tapping wakes up the skin and serum gives a little moisture surge -Look Fab Forever Serum
  • Lymph drainage moves with jade roller of fingers.
  • Moisturiser massaged into the skin using Look Fab Forever day cream at mo.
  • voila!
