Go Green

I wanted to pick up on the trends for Spring summer 2022. Just because we are older does not mean we lose all ability to keep up with fashion trends or the want to wear them. I really love the Pantone colour washes that are on the catwalk this spring running through fashion and make up, especially the lime greens and acid tones reminiscent of the 80’s. However this maybe a bit full on for the over 50s so here is my softened version of the beautiful greens seen on the Victoria Beckham and Roksanda runways.

It was great being back in the studio and working with Classic model Julianna 52 and Photographer Will White. Julianna is the perfect complextion for this colour wash look which looks amazing with her beautiful silver hair. Read on for our interesting beauty chat about being an older model

Beauty Chat

  1. How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking? 52
  • Do you think your own life personal stresses has an impact on how you are visibly ageing ? Yes – Hair colour!
  • How do you feel within yourself as you get older including health? I still feel young a part from physical ailments
  • How do you feel about the physical signs of ageing when look in the mirror? I don’t mind going grey but dont like my wrinkles
  • Have you or would you consider any intrusive anti-ageing treatments? Perhaps Botox in the future, but only if I choose it and not because a job requires me to do it
  • Do you think our societies attitude to ageing has any impact on how you feel about yourself? Yes- I feel certain colours/ styles are too bright to look good on older people, so really great to see how fashion looks can be adapted for older faces
  • How has modelling changed as you have got older?I only started modelling since 2012, but I think grey hair has become fashionable since I started. Before this I would definitely been classed as an elderly person just because I have grey hair.
  • Historically the media have used younger models and made them look fuddy rather than age appropriate and made them look great, do you think this is still the case? Yes, Although it is slowly changing- Thankfully!
  • Do you think you are represented well for older 50+ women in the media. I think some agencies are more supportive than others. I do feel I am ‘the older model’ on shoots and would love to see more shoots that are just older models not just me representing that demographic in an otherwise room of younger models
  1. Do you think seeing untouched fun and positive imagery of older women can make a difference to societies attitude on age? Yes definitely
  1. Do you think seeing untouched fun and positive imagery of older women when you were younger would of made a difference to how you feel about yourself now?Yes – I used to think being older stopped you doing things!
  1. What is your can’t live without make up product and brand? Concealer! Bobbi Brown
  1. What is your favourite skincare product? Night cream

About This Blog

My aim as a make up artist and positive age warrior is to produce fun, untouched, non- stereotypical beauty images of faces, all different ages 50+ showing great make up and style. It is not about looking younger, just fabulous and hope to capture a little of the character of my models who are all local women. I’m not a photographer, but have a keen eye on how I want my image to look.

My blog is also a platform to inform you about my Graceful Disgraceful workshops, the experience and what women have said about it.

I wonder if when we look in the mirror our dread of ageing is partly triggered from how we are made to feel in our society. So, let’s try and change that narrative.
