No Make-up Make-up

A contradiction perhaps, but ‘No make-up make-up’ is how an mua (makeup artist) would be briefed to do a look for a photoshoot that makes the model appear as if they are wearing very natural or no make- up.

In life we often don’t have the time or the want to be wearing a lot of make up on a day-to-day basis, but still wish to look even skinned and glowing.

So, todays post is all about quick easy no make-up make-up.

Who better to demonstrate this look on than Viv (60) Pilates teacher, massage therapist and completely non make up wearer?

Viv, a small woman with large achievements has cycled Lands End to John O Groats twice, walked The Camino de Santiago Trail alone, suffered altitude sickness climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and was part of a team that played Rugby on top of Mt. Everest- the highest rugby match ever played. She has raised lots for charity and this is only a slice of her very energetic life. No wonder for her lack of make-up.

A small part in helping to raise money for the Everest Rugby Challenge Myself, Viv and Wendy doing a charity Dancefit class

Viv’s Comments

Very relaxing and great fun. I liked the idea of not having to use a lot of make up even though I knew it was for a photo – the make up Karen did is very acceptable to wear going to the shops – which in fact I will be doing later and feeling very glam!

Make up How

I massaged in a little of Violet Jordan moisturiser that is formulated for older skin and sits very well under make up. I then applied an even layer of Bobbi Brown tinted moisturiser to give extra moisture and a very light coverage to Vivs face, then groomed her eyebrows, filling in a little with Look Fab Forever Bring back brow in grey and held them in place with MAC eyebrow gel. Not wanting to fuss with eyemake up I used a little contour along the eye socket bone and under the cheek bone which lifts the eye and shapes the face. Quick sweep of black mascara on the top lashes only, which lifts and gives depth to the eye. I wanted to try out Violet Jordans Glow and Go set which was kindly gifted to me, so I used the dew stick across the cheek forhead and down the nose, the Berry on the apples of the cheeks, sliding up the cheek bone towards the ear and the Pearl on top of the cheek bone and up on to the temples for that all important youthful glow. The berry also doubles up for a moisturising lip stain. I added a Revolution pout bomb gloss in candy. Such a pretty and very easy look to achieve.

About This Blog

My aim as a make up artist and positive age warrior is to produce fun, untouched, non- stereotypical beauty images of faces, all different ages 50+ showing great make up and style. It is not about looking younger, just fabulous and hope to capture a little of the character of my models who are all local women. I’m not a photographer, but have a keen eye on how I want my image to look.

My blog is also a platform to inform you about my Graceful Disgraceful workshops, the experience and what women have said about it.

I wonder if when we look in the mirror our dread of ageing is partly triggered from how we are made to feel in our society. So, let’s try and change that narrative.
